Take Action

The Ozone Action program is a voluntary ozone reduction program that has been successful in West Michigan, and in other large metropolitan areas.  On days when the region is particularly vulnerable to exceeding recommended levels of ozone pollution according to the Air Quality Index, local media and the West Michigan Clean Air Coalition will notify citizens and businesses to take extra precautions and thereby avoid creating additional ground-level ozone pollution. Ozone Action days are more likely when specific weather conditions occur, such as sunny, calm days when the temperature exceeds 80°.

Please do your part and become notified either by calling the WMCAC hotline or signing up to receive email notification of Ozone Action days. Together, West Michigan can become more informed and better protect ourselves from ozone pollution.

The West Michigan Clean Air Coalition is a partnership of businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, industry, and non-profit organizations in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, and Kalamazoo counties working together to achieve cleaner air in the region through the education and promotion of voluntary emission reduction activities.
